Winner of Marathon Worlds in 2012, twice capped for the Olympics, the Greek will finally discover Sardinia: “I know I’ll feel like home”

Aritzo (Italy), June 6th, 2024 – Rally di Sardegna MTB ensured a further “big name” to highlight the startlist of the 10th edition, to be held next August 28th-31st. Former Marathon World Champion Periklis Ilias will take in Sardinia’s MTB stage-race to be unfolded in the very heart of the Island, through the territories of Aritzo, Belvì, Desulo, Tonara, Seulo, Sadali and Seui.

Tabros Racing Team’s Greek biker will discover Sardinia for the first time: “I’ve never been in Sardinia and I can’t wait to be there. What do I expect? Nice mountain views, in an Island renowned for its sea, and then an exciting competition, good Italian food and warm weather” Ilias comments. Like Greece, except for the food… “Yes, I know I’ll feel like home”.

Periklis king of Greece: another National title last May

Periklis is back from an intense May, with the umpteenth Marathon National championship win (MTB) and the 12th position in Tour of Hellas’ final classification (Road). In the early season, Ilias had place third at 4 Stage MTB Race Lanzarote 2024 and fifth at Hellenic XCO Mountain Bike.

Marathon World Champion in Ornans (2012)

The unforgettable day of Periklis’ career was October 7th, 2012 when he won the XCM World Championships in Ornans (France). Ilias also stepped up the podium of many relevant international events, being capped twice for the Olympic Games (London 2012, Tokyo 2021).

Promoted by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia – Department of Tourism, Crafts and Commerce, the Rally di Sardegna MTB is organized by Wild Track, under the aegis of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and by the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) and the support and the patronage of the Municipalities of Aritzo, Desulo and Seulo.
